Each team entering the race must pay a nomination fee of
$300 (lone runner $200). This fee, together with all sponsorship
monies raised by teams, is paid to the Pilbara Black Rock Stakes Committee prior
to the race and thereafter held in an account until it is allocated to designated
charities, community groups etc. The race is arduous. Apart from the race
itself, many hours of training are involved for weeks prior to the
event. It is
essential that teams practice running and jumping from a moving
vehicle so as to synchronise smooth changeovers of runners and to
minimise muscle injuries. The race is medically supervised. Every precaution is taken
to ensure the safety of runners at all times. The State Emergency
Service, St Johns Ambulance and the Police all provide invaluable
assistance. Every
precaution is taken to ensure that safety is paramount at all
times during the race.
